....I'd say they're nailing it.
If I could just get them to return my "heel highs" as Elise calls them, these pictures would be even more entertaining to me.
However we start the day, at some point, costumes happen. Daily for Elise and Emmett, sometimes the big girls get involved. They always look to my closet for reinforcements when their actual costumes lack the flair or options they desire. One day I'll miss it. Today, I want my stuff back.
When Elise gets herself dressed for the day, it seems that she makes an effort to include all the colors and all the patterns and all the seasons-which is so nice because I've really made an effort to teach her inclusivity. With humans. I didn't realize the spillover it would have in matters of wardrobe. Sometimes, when her outfit gives me a headache, I tell her to go change one thing she's wearing to a solid color because she doesn't match. She always asks in an exasperated voice, "Why do I have to match"? I've come to see that I'm holding her back. I've decided lately that she doesn't have to match. I shall liberate her from that restraint (for the most part) and allow her soul to embrace the rainbow of options she so loves to display in her ensembles. I think the rule is that if you have perfect ringlets in your hair that occur spontaneously and are not even marred by clumps of yogurt or streaks of chalk, you are allowed to wear whatever the heck you want to wear. It's a cruel world for the rest of us.
I'm looking forward to a future day, maybe 30 years from now, when I go to her house for a visit. I will quietly slink into her closet and in a matter of minutes all her accessories will be furiously utilized. Whirlwind of scarfs, shoes everywhere, tank tops and bracelets for days, hair bows without end, lip gloss like you would not believe, and hats galore. And then I will leave, throwing a shoe under the bed and one earring in the trash and her favorite beanie behind the dryer on my way out.
I'll just have to be sure to pick her a bunch of her own flowers from her garden and bring her a platter of really random food items afterward. That's how she gets me.
As for Emmett, let it be known that I made him a Batman cape and bought him Batman slippers. The idea was that these items would replace the dresses and tutus. It hasn't. That boy can maintain a steady full blown run in high heels. He has spent hours in every dress we have. But if you take his favorite purse, expect to have a quick punch to the face or a car thrown at your nose. It's a weird world he has to live in, and bless his heart, he's really doing his best to make sense of it. Perhaps Levi will offer some balance to our estrogen heavy playroom.
The truth is, they spend their days playing together, pretending to be family. There are worse things. But if I have to clean out one more purse that has 5 items from every room in the house, I might just really actually lose my mind forever and ever.
It might find good company with our stapler and our can opener, which I'm sure are in someones purse under someones bed, buried under a heap of granola bar wrappers.
I'm trying here, folks. I really am.
In the mean time, enjoy some fashion inspiration:
